Mini Reality Shows in 2022 and why you should make one of your own

The topic of reality shows has not been addressed as much for a while and I wanted to write on this topic just by saying that people are already walking reality shows as a figure of speech when we enter to this fast paced social media era and seeing businesses starving for the attention of their customers to be left wondering why just posting an update on their social media feeds, running a facebook ad isn’t going to make the cut. One of my favourite sentences is, “it is not about making people finding you, but it’s about people wanting to find you.”

“people are already walking reality shows as a figure of speech”

So Before we dive in for why you can really benefit from making your own reality show and how to do it today and have success doing it with your business, I wanted to share a personal story of my own just by elaborating how the trend of stories has been captivating people’s attention and causing them to make purchase decisions.

“it is not about making people finding you, but it’s about people wanting to find you.”

In my media sales executive days circa 2017 I’ve used stories just to entertain few of my work colleagues with my daily business tips updates on social media platforms such as instagram and snapchat. Sooner than later I’ve found that a larger number of the organisation already followed my daily business and inspirational quote updates so I just kept posting and posting, but back then, I didn’t really know to what means my stories are about to benefit until I’ve found that a lot of the people really loved buying some of the clothing that I’ve purchased and some of the home use products that I’ve acquired and posted updates about these products. Later, on I’ve also found that many of my followers have started their daily fitness routines and some even started registering to the local gym after I shared a few workout videos on my stories again. So, in a quick summary it is a fast moving trend, now, let’s discuss why businesses can reap the benefits of making mini reality shows in today’s marketing environment.

The power of speed of consumption and the need for entertainment on demand.

the speed of consumption of media has now become largely faster due to high internet speeds at our fingertips, content available to everyone at all times of the day, yet what we lack more of — is the content itself. You see, when people start their morning or on way to work they will check in with their social media apps first, and what gets to them first is John’s story from the weekend or Genevieve’s workout reel from last Tuesday night. In story and short video updates people have the chance to talk about brands and products. people who see brands and products at their friends’ social media updates tend to trust and purchase more thanks to the trust factor. It is a very simple concept; the social media friend isn’t actually hired by the brands or products that they sometimes share — so it is easier to trust them because they will usually gonna have an unbiased opinion about the brand they are using, and as a result it is easier to trust them and later on, to purchase what they have as a consequence.

0800 buy now ad on the TV channel isn’t going to make the cut

What pushes us away and what pulls us in — The Power of PULLING Content vs the Weakness of PUSH Content

Content that PUSHES us away: Coming along to our days, I think many can agree that the 0800 buy now ad on the TV channel isn’t going to make the cut for us as we are informed consumers who are connected to our phones in every second of the day, and people are much more interested in entertainment rather than having the cold straight facts. The Saleslady that awkwardly starts her sales pitch about the famous window blinds , the new 6 bedroom home just as we make an eye contact when we just simply say “hi”. That is what we call PUSH content — it is a content that shouts out loud; “buy me”, “I am the best”, “I work faster than anyone else”, “The deal ends in 2 days” and so on. It is the use of muscle and hustle vs the use of empathy.

Please just keep pulling me in

Content that PULLS us in: The amazing TV ad that shows a mother expressing her love to her daughter on way to pick her up from school with her new car but the car is not the main thing of the show(but it is an ad about a car brand). A sales lady who greets the same mother from the car ad at a store entrance, asks about her day and keeps such an interest in her little daughter to entertain her while mommy does her browsing. After the mother and daughter finished browsing, the sales lady then says; “have a nice day and I hope to see you next time”. Perhaps another example of a great “pull us in moment” is to see a famous home architecture brand handing out new baby born freebies in an EXPO event. — You see, This brand is clearly into architecture home products, but isn’t trying to give home product freebies. But instead, they are giving out Baby use products for parents, these are the things that people are looking for in a baby expo event. As a result, these people now are feeling pulled into that Home architecture brand and are considering them for the future when the time will be right for their new home improvement. They will want to reciprocate with that brand as a thanks for that freebie from the baby expo.

Mini Reality shows is a “Pulling content” for your customers

If you have a business and when it comes to the visuals of your social content and your website, all you show to your customers is your business content, the customers eventually will get too bored and will go to look for entertainment somewhere else. But if you got an idea for entertainment, which is behind your business, something like your personal life, a way to show another character of you behind your business, then your customers now will be more engaged to find this out about you.

“you are inviting each and everyone of them to become you”

You see, look at it from a perspective of a character development in a well known series or a movie on Netflix. We are connected to the character because in this moment, the character has become more valuable and more interesting to us, and at some stage, we are literally seeing ourselves in this character. Then, we want to keep watch this character and figure out where his story is going to lead.

In a matter of common sense, when you are making a Mini reality show to share with your customers, you are inviting each and everyone of them to become you — as the character who leads a business and shares their personal lives. As a result the customers who follow you, are becoming your referees for future customers of your products and services. They are your loyal fans.
